03/21 - Cold rainy day doesen't keep Smith brothers form bring in 23.45 pounds of Mississippi River Bass including a 7.80 lunker

While most anglers were complaning about slow fishing and bad weather, which was cold, foggy and misting rain on and off all day, Lennie and Leslie Smith didn't let it bother them. They proceded to catch a 5 bass limit that tipped the scales at 23.45 pounds including the 7.80 lunker of the tournament. Other impressive catches of the day was Allen Powell and Billy Hopking close behind in 2nd, with a limit weighing in at 22.00 pounds, and last years points champs and winners of 3 events, Joey Beevers and Butch James came in 3rd with 5 bass weighing 20.00.
This was the first event of the 2005 season and 40 teams competed for the first place prize of $2125.00. This was the same time of year we fished Lake Ferguson last year, however a colder than normal March has the water temperature below normal, so for the most part the catch was off form last season.
The next Mississippi River Team event will be April 17 at DeSota lake. Hope to see you there.
